If you are planning a loft conversion, here are some important design considerations to keep in mind:
First, the existing loft must be able to accommodate a head height of 2.2 meters, even after plaster and insulation are added by the builder. We can verify this for you during our consultation if you’re unsure.
If the existing roof space doesn’t provide enough head height, raising the roof is an option. This is particularly desirable if your current roof needs significant repairs and your property is detached.
You might need to utilise space from a small room on the floor below to install the new stairs to access to the loft, depending on the proposed design. This requirement varies with each property.
Adding a dormer window to the loft can also be valuable, increasing both head height and floor space. Dormer windows can also be improved with features like a Juliet balcony to elevate the new design.
Finally, the depending on the construction of your loft, you will likely need structural alterations for the process. We work closely with local structural engineers who will be able to assist with this.
