Double storey extension to cottage

Lacaze Architecture provided architectural services to achieve this double storey extension to cottage. Planning permission and building control approval were achieved for this project in Carharrack, Cornwall

Our clients sought a double storey extension to a cottage to expand their living space to accommodate their growing family, as their current small 2-bedroom Cornish cottage was no longer sufficient. In addition to the need for more space, the cottage was plagued by dampness and required extensive renovations. The result was the transformation of the cottage into a spacious four-bedroom property, marrying modern comfort with traditional charm.

Key Features:

  • Expanded Living Space: the remodelled property now boasts four bedrooms, proving ample room for the growing family. The downstairs area was reimagined, with a new extension housing the open-plan kitchen/dining room, while the existing cottage retained its cosy living room.
  • Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Connection: The double storey extension to cottage features French doors that open directly onto the clients’ beautiful garden, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living and inviting natural light and fresh air into the home.
